Bridgid Patrick - Great Unknown

I might be famous if I would,
Put words together as I could.
As other poets of our time,
Have the poems in meter and rhyme.

And as their poetry, so cold!
Searching for rhymes I may grow old.
Alter meaning, change the thought;
Please people and it will be bought.

Damn them! My soul is not for sale.
I’d write poems that no one would hail,
As long as they are from my heart;
My lines and I shall never part.

Just write your ideas as you feel,
With all your effort and your zeal.
And if your work they don’t condone,
(Remember) I’d rather be great and unknown.
