Brian Potthast - Scars

These scars are self inflicted.
Each with their own story.
Each a reminder of pain and suffering.
Always fresh and burning anew.
A constant reminder of what I’ve done.
Things that have happened and things to come.
These scars, the pain, they cut so deep.
Cutting away at not only my flesh.
But taking with them part of my soul.
I’ll never forget what each one means.
Forever to remember these cold deeds.
That come along with so much pain.
Why there here, I’ll never understand.
But each one here is a living brand.
Forcing me to remember the hurt I’ve bared.
Reminding me I’ve been through worse.
Yet there’s more to come.
These scars they hurt me more than some.
