Description
Staff at Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Florida, welcomed the zoo’s first stingray pups on Tuesday, May 15.
According to zoo officials, their southern stingray Belle gave birth to two stingrays, Dallas and Clementine, each weighing just under a pound at birth.
Southern stingrays are native to shallow waters in the western Atlantic Ocean, according to the zoo.</a> Little is known about this species’ conservation status, but stingrays as a whole are threatened by overfishing, coastal development and climate change.
