At this instant, I'm watching the steam
Rise off of my blueberry pancakes
The seat across the table is bare
Bright moon mocks me through the window glass Waitresses holler and take orders
Cooks scramble to make the late night eggs
But mostly the din is minimal
Leaving me to hear your silent voice Fat truckers, hidden behind their beards
Late night loners with plain, blank faces
Penniless students pouring over
Pages of forgotten history Also there are lovers gazing on
Eyes locked, seeing deep into each other
Feign smile of dazed love on their faces
Feet entwined 'neath old pieces of gum I aspired to be amongst these
To escape my loneliness with you
To inventory all your beauty
With joy just to be in your presence
