Breakthrough is a 2019 American Christian drama film directed by Roxann Dawson. It is written by Grant Nieporte, based on the Christian novel The Impossible by Joyce Smith with Ginger Kolbaba, which relates the story of the author's teenage son, John Smith (portrayed by Marcel Ruiz), who fell through ice whilst playing with friends and was put in a coma. The film follows his parents Joyce (Chrissy Metz) and Brian (Josh Lucas), whose faith in their God keeps their hope alive that John will pull through. The films stars Topher Grace as the Smiths' pastor Jason Noble with a cameo by contemporary Christian artist Phil Wickham. Basketball player Stephen Curry is executive producer.
