Sua pequena comunidade na Escócia é controlada pelos anciões, que ditam as regras e costumes do local. O marido dela é considerado um “outsider”, alguém de fora, e mesmo não totalmente bem-vindo ele se casa com ela e eles passam a morar juntos na comunidade. Ela descobre o sexo e se torna ainda mais enlouquecida pelo marido, em uma relação intensa e sem reservas. Um acidente ocorre e o mundo deles e o das pessoas à sua volta muda completamente.
