Brand New (Open Mic)

I had the wonderful opportunity to spit a little poetry at Lila Yoga in State college the other day and I am excited to finally recite this poem. I wrote it few months ago just sitting in a car. I put my phone on record and just spit off the top of my head. I listened back and took out my favorite lines of the bunch and put this poem together called brand new. In the video I deliver this with a great deal more calmness than which I envisioned but its a run read regardless. Enjoy. Brand New: I’m feeling brand new Like a fresh pair of kicks laced up real nice With the press jeans and fitted hat with the aviator shades on It’s like I’m starting off on the right foot with my left foot first So I’m struttin I got that swag on I’m still rocking that shirt with the tag on Cause I’m feeling Brand new See yesterday might have been cloudy And Rained a little, Snowed a little, Hailed a little, Impaled a little Pained a little, Stained a little Drained a little out of me but I can’t help but see today and tomorrow as clear as clear can be I’m cocky and confident But is it really cocky if it’s true? Cause I’m feeling brand new I see the truth, like A kid looking through a telescope for the first time seeing the stars and the man on the moon with the cow jumping over it with some dish running away with the spoon… just innocent uninhibited curiosity and imagination Like the brand new car smell See I’m feel refreshed My senses are on high and mixed with zest fully clean with lever 2000 for my 2000 body parts because my bodily parts are fly cause I’m feeling brand new You could hit the brakes and slow it down a bit Turn it around a bit Flip it upside down a bit But no troubled waters will make me Drown a bit I’ll even give you a little sound clip And let is resound with everyone in the bar saying I’m feeling brand new See I live life with life and don’t let it be my owner The only slave I am is a slave to being free So when my brow sweats and I get tense And the grass is greener on the other side of the fense I ...
