After cancelling U2's headline appearance at Glastonbury due to emergency back surgery, Bono says he's raring to go for the band's live return in three weeks time.

The singer has popped up on the band's website saying he is ready to return to the stage. He's been suffering from a serious back injury since May, which saw him confined to a hospital bed for two months.

Bono says he's feeling back on form: "Feeling strong, feeling confident, you know what I'm saying. And I'm ready, rebuilt by German engineering, better design I'm told and I'll be fighting fit."

The 50-year-old also thanked fans for standing by him and apologised for having to cancel a string of European and North American shows. There was also a hint that he's had time to write some new songs while being forced to stare at the celling.

In the recording The Edge can be heard joking about finding a replacement front-man and drummer Larry Mullen Jr warns that "no one's indispensable."

U2 will resume their 360º tour in Turin, Italy on August 6. The forced cancellations has reportedly been costly for the supergroup pushing them into debt.
