Blast rocks Kabul
Description
ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION
At least six people were killed in a suicide car bomb attack in Kabul on Wednesday (May 02) just hours after the departure of U.S. President Barack Obama following an unannounced visit to the Afghan capital.
Afghanistan's Taliban says it carried out the attack targetting a Western military compound in protest over Obama's visit.
A Taliban spokesman said the bombing was in response to Obama's signing of a strategic pact with President Hamid Karzai's government.
Police said those killed in the explosion were a Gurkha guard and five passers-by.
Reuters witnesses heard a second blast in the same area about 90 minutes after the first explosion.
A spokesman from NATO headquarters in Afghanistan said the coalition was aware of several blasts.
The violence, and Obama's visit, came a year to the day after U.S. special forces troops killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in a raid in neighbouring Pakistan.
