Blast hits Pakistan funeral

At least 13 people are dead and another 31 wounded, after a bomb exploded at a funeral on the outskirts of Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar.

Police were still investigating the cause of the blast, but said it appeared to be a suicide attack.

Local media said over a hundred people had gathered for the funeral of a local woman when the blast ripped through the crowd of mourners.

One resident said if the explosion had been five minutes earlier, many more would have been killed.

(SOUNDBITE) (Pashto) AMANULLAH KHAN, LOCAL RESIDENT, SAYING:

"If this had happened during the funeral prayers, there would have been great destruction. Many people would have died. But this blast happened five minutes after the funeral was over."

Those wounded have been rushed to nearby Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, where doctors said several were in critical condition.
