Blackpool's first top-flight appearance since 1971 turned into one of the most memorable in their entire history as they demolished Wigan at the DW Stadium.

The Tangerines never looked back once Gary Taylor-Fletcher had put them ahead early in the first-half.

Marlon Harewood's double ensured the points were secure by half-time and Alex Baptiste added a fourth from the touchline with a shot that caught Chris Kirkland completely off guard.

Wigan's Mauro Boselli came agonisingly close to marking his debut with a goal when he clipped the bar with an angled header.

But by now, Wigan were just trying to give themselves some slim piece of respectability.

The arrival of James McArthur for Victor Moses was Martinez's last hope but it did not work, and when Alex Baptiste let fly from the touchline with a shot bound for the bottom corner, Kirkland did not read it and it ended up in the net.
