Description

A vintage plane flipped upside down while landing at an airport in Washington DC.

The World War II-era aircraft was part of a group flying to promote the opening of 3-D film "Legends of Flight".

The planes took off from a small airport in Northern Virginia and flew along the Potomac River towards the US capital.

One of them, a 1943 Boeing, flipped over upon landing in Reagan National Airport.

The pilot said he tapped the brakes and the plane turned over on its nose.

Both the pilot and the passenger, a Washington post reporter, escaped uninjured.

The accident occurred shortly after 10am local time.

The main runway was subsequently closed for approximately an hour and a half because of the crash.
