Bill Grace - Face Returned From War

My General's face
I know it well
Though not as well as wife or child
And do not presume upon small acts of service
Rendered as salute.

Back from war
No change in soul for sure
By miracle of grace
But a purple line of toil upon his face
Makes me celebrate he's with us
And assure that soul its need for rest.
