Bill Grace - Early Morning Light

Of all light I love best
The color of early morning gray
That grants the form of things
Beyond demands of lurid detail

Whose moment is sanctioned
By the chorus from my father's clock
So that while dead he speaks in steady rhythms

And while Laurie sleeps
I sit with dog upon his couch
Appreciate the candle's flickering power
And gather strength both from quiet and caffeine
To face the deepening textures
Of the coming day.
