Como ya hemos mencionado en otras ocasiones, incluso antes de que los grandes medios se atreviesen a hablar por primera vez de esta iniciativa, el Bilderberg Group fue fundado en 1954 por Joseph Retinger, fundador del Movimiento Europeo, antecedente directo de la Unión Europea, y el príncipe Bernardo de Holanda, con el supuesto fin de fomentar el entendimiento y fortalecer los lazos entre Europa y Estados Unidos. El grupo tomó su nombre del Hotel de Bilderberg, lugar donde se celebró la primera reunión (que en alemán significa “la montaña de la construcción”, en una franca alusión masónica.
