Bijri Khan Tomb

Bijri tomb is a massive structure constructed of rubble masonry during the Lodhi period - 15th Century. The dome springs from a sixteen sided drum and is crowned with a red sand stone and marble pinnacle. Surrounded by slums and piles of rubble, the tomb in Sector 3 of R K Puram in New Delhi is crowned by a red sandstone and marble pinnacle. Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) has graded the monument of archaeological value 'A'. Though Bijri Khan was probably a noble of the Lodhi period, conservation architects say that the building is of more archaeological value than historical. While the wall at the base of the tomb has peeled off to reveal the inner layers, the graves inside the monument are in a dilapidated state. Of the four graves, the ones on the side are the worst off with chunks of stones littering the floor. And there are the miscellaneous empty bottles and chappals to add to the list.

The tomb has arched entrances containing doorways with brackets on architraves, a typical characteristic of Lodi period architecture. The parapet and thew drum are crowned with kanguras. There are two staircases within the eastern wall leading to the terrace. The red stone finial on the dome is a unique feature of the tomb. The small tomb adjoining Bijri Khan's Tomb belongs to Tuglaq Period.
