Beyonce makes her mark

STORY: The United Nations, humanitarian aid organizations and musician Beyonce launched a video on Friday (August 3) to begin a global campaign to shine a spotlight on humanitarian work and encourage people around the world to get involved by doing something good for others.

"On August 19th, 2012 it's high time we rise together. Do one thing for another human being. Nothing is too small. Make your mark and say I was here. Go to WHDIwashere.org and together we'll make our stories known. One day. One message. One billion people taking action for each other," Beyonce said in the video.

The pop singer and songwriter Diane Warren will also donate a video of "I Was Here" that will be filmed in the UN General Assembly Hall in New York in front of a live audience. The video will premiere August 19 on World Humanitarian Day and the UN hopes it will help the campaign reach one billion people.

A news release said the campaign website launched on Thursday (August 2) and allows people to share individual acts of good.

Beyonce said in the statement that World Humanitarian Day is a chance to work together.
