Bethan Ackerley - Keep Calm and Carry On

I fear we’re,
Drowning in the stench,
Of freshly rotting flesh,
And newly folded uniforms,
Even the rats,
Flee from the glassy eyes,
Of freshly fallen friends,
And newly polished boots,

But I tell the men,
To keep calm and carry on,
Whilst they fill the freshly dug graves,
With new invigoration,
Even though I’m growing,
More exhausted from the fight,
I’m fresh out of ideas,
For a new way out of this,

I’m going to,
Keep calm and carry on,
Because my head aches too much,
From thinking this over,
Every day’s another,
Punch to the gut,
But I have to,
Keep calm and carry on.
