Bernard Shaw - Heavenly Goal.

On going to my local Church today,
I listened quietly to the congregation pray.
Then they sang a hymn of praise,
This old hymn did my spirits raise.
The Vicar preached a sermon good and strong,
This too seemed to march my soul along.
Then all prayed the Lords Prayer,
I took part and did my share.
“Give us this day our daily bread, ”
Amen oh Lord to this I said.
Then we sang the closing hymn,
I now felt free from earthly sin.
Abide with me fast falls the eventide.
Help of the helpless Lord with me abide.
At the Church door the Vicar stood,
Asked us to come again, I knew I would.
A good Church service cleans my soul
I feel I am on my way to that Heavenly goal.
