Benghazi celebrates UN resolution

A month after the outbreak of a rebellion against longtime Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, the opposition finally got what it wanted: international help.

Acting with unusual speed, the United Nations Security Council drafted and passed a resolution authorising sweeping military action against Gaddafi's regime.

In Benghazi, the seat of the rebellion, residents reacted with joy and praised the international coalition that had finally come to their aid. Their city, Libya's second largest, had been saved from almost assured destruction, and the end game for Gaddafi finally seemed in sight.
