Behind The Fighter: Andy DeVent

Andy sits with Fight Life TV for his most revealing interview to date, confessing how the sport of Mixed Martial Arts ultimately ended up
saving his life.

A troubled childhood and recurrent brushes with the law saw Andy spend months at a time staring at the inside of jail cell. It was only when he discovered MMA that he proceeded to clean up his act and reinvent himself as a professional sportsman that hundreds of young athletes now to turn to for inspiration.

Described as one of the nicest fighters in the game, Andrew ‘The LionPaw’ DeVent has become somewhat of a legend as he continues to fight with vigour despite being 38 years old.

In this week’s edition, Andrew bravely speaks about his troubled past that led to him battling the police and facing prison frequently. In an emotional debut Andy describes how the death of his father whilst he was in prison was the turning point in his life.

After being released from prison, Andy made a vow in his dad’s honour, a vow to become a respectable citizen and keep out of prison. A vow that he has kept.

Having found an outlet in MMA, Andy began forging a career when he was 27, an age in which most fighters have already established a reputation. Despite this Andy didn’t let his age phase him, he trained hard and he dominated the cage.

He currently has a fight record of 14 wins out of 24 fights, an impressive fight record that showcases his skills and talent. After upping his category from middleweight to welterweight, Andy found the change too drastic. He began to flick between winning and losing streaks, eventually he made the decision to step down to his rightful category. Once again Andy began raking in the wins.

His recent fight was a rematch between himself and David Round at Tanko Fighting Championships 2. Andy evened the fighting score and took the win with a rear-naked choke that forced David Round to tap out in the first round.

It was just one of the many occasions in which Andy has proved himself as a Lion in the cage.

Andy isn’t just a successful fighter, he is also a loving father to his daughter. A daughter who is immensely proud of her dad and won’t let him. Not that he has any plans to retire himself. But like most fighters the future is unpredictable.

However when it does come to retirement, Andy has a plan in store as he intends to pass his boxing gloves on and become a world class trainer. Given his life experiences and MMA knowledge following his mistakes and his victories, he feels he would be an insightful teacher that could take aspiring fighter far.

Since his younger days, Andy has carved a path for himself. He was saved by MMA, a sport that enabled him to become the respected fighter that he is today.
