Barbara Culbertson - The Butterfly

As I walk down the curving road
A butterfly floats into my path
While I walk it stays just in front of me
Never swaying from the curving way
As I start to catch up with it
The butterfly stays out of reach
Finally as I lift my hands to touch it
A glorious feeling of my mother comes over me
Was she there, was she the butterfly
Was she just saying Hi
Or telling me she is always with me
Watching over me
The feeling was very powerful
Suddenly the butterfly flies higher
And a sadness came over me
A feeling of loss
Then the butterfly appeared once more
And I knew she had always been with me
A smile appeared on my face
And a tear in my eye
As I knew she would never leave me
She would always be there
In my heart & in my mind
