Description

Indonesian militant Umar Patek is jailed for 20 years for making the bombs used to attack night-clubs in Bali ten years ago.

Two hundred and two people died in the bombings.

The same court in Jakarta's also convicted him of making the bombs used to attack churches on Christmas Eve 2000 which killed 15.

Patek, who spoke with his legal team after learning calmly of his sentence, said he may appeal.

His defence lawyer says the sentence is too harsh.

SOUNDBITE: ASLUDIN HATJANI, DEFENCE LAWYER, SAYING (Bahasa Indonesia):

"After hearing the judge's sentence we're very disappointed with the 20-year jail term. I think that's too heavy for my client."

Patek was captured in the same town in Pakistan where U.S. forces killed Osama bin Laden.

Security officials say he was a member of the Jemaah Islamiah group liked to al Qaeda.
