Balakot Bridge Damage Develops Cracks

بالاکوٹ (نیوز رپورٹر) شاہراہ کاغان کو مرکز سے ملانے والا واحد تاریخی ایوب پل سرکنے سے ٹریفک معطل ہو گئی۔ پل کا پلر سرکنے سے ملحقہ دکانوں میں بھی دراڑیں پڑ گئیں جس سے کاغان ناراں جانے والی ہیوی ٹریفک بند کر دی گئی. واضح رہے2005 کے ہولناک زلزلے میں محفوظ رہ جانے والے اس پل میں 12 سال بعد دراڑ نمودار ہوئی اگر بروقت مرمت اور جاندار حل نہ نکالا گیا تو نہ صرف مسافروں اور سیاحوں کو مشکلات درپیش آ سکتی ہیں بلکہ کسی بھی حادثے کا باعث بن سکتا ہے۔ ایوب پل کا افتتاح سابق صدر ایوب خان نے 1962میں کیا تھا۔ ایوب پل تاریخی اہمیت کا حامل ہے جو نہ صرف وادی کاغان اور گلگت بلتستان کو شاہراہ کاغان کے ذریعے مرکز سے ملاتا ہے بلکہ وادی کاغان میں جاری سی پیک منصوبہ کے لیے جانے والی گاڑیاں اور ہیوی مشنیری بھی اسی پل سے گزرتی ہیں۔۔ پل کی بندش سے عوام اور سیاحوں کو پریشانی کا سامنا کرنا پڑ سکتا ہے۔ سکی کناری ڈیم کو جانے والی مشینری بھی متاثر ہو رہی ہے جب کہ ہزارہ کا شمالی علاقہ جات سے رابطہ بھی منقطہ ہو چکا اس کے متبادلہ راستہ انتہائ دشوار گزار ہونے کے ساتھ شکستہ بھی ہے جس پر سفر نہیں کیا جا سکتا، مسافروں نے متبادل راستہ اختیار کرنے کے لیے حسہ پل جولکڑی کا بنا ہوا ہے پر رش بڑھ گیا ہے، جو کہ خطرناک ہے۔ اہلیان علاقہ نے انتظامیہ پر زور دیا ہے کہ ایمرجنسی پل کی جلد از جلد تنصیب کو یقینی بنایا جائے تاکہ عوامی مشکلات میں کمی واقع ممکن ہو سکے

MANSEHRA: The central bridge in Balakot, which links Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Gilgit-Baltistan through Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road, has moved from its actual position blocking traffic between two regions and other parts of the country.

“We’d repeatedly asked the National Highway Authority during the last one year to repair or construct an alternative bridge on the Kunhar River, but to no avail. Ironically, the bridge has now developed wide cracks, while one of its pillars has dislocated,” tehsil nazim Rustam Khan told reporters here on Tuesday.

Built in early 60s, the bridge had developed cracks during the 2005 earthquake. It was made operational after the NHA carried out repairs to it. However, it has moved from its original place and thus, creating dangerous cracks.

The police diverted traffic to an infrequent and highly-dilapidated Balakot-Garhi Habibullah Road meant for light traffic only.

The road users expressed anger at the NHA over failure to construct alternative bridge and feared that the cracks could cause a big human tragedy.

The nazim and NHA officials rushed to the bridge after the development and ensured the diversion of traffic.

President of the Balakot Traders Association Javed Iqbal told reporters that he had taken up the bridge’s poor condition with the relevant NHA officials many times but the latter remained indifferent.

He said after the suspension of the traffic on the bridge, local traders would suffer huge losses.

Visitors to the Kaghan valley, too, remained stranded in Balakot and on Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road, which links KP with Gilgit-Baltistan.

A traffic warden deployed in Balakot said alternative arrangements had been made to provide a safe passage to the MNJ Road users through the Balakot-Garhi Habibullah Road.

COURT OPENED: The first-ever court was inaugurated in Torghar district on Tuesday.

“This is a great day in the history of Torghar, where the first-ever court of law is starting function for the dispensation of justice to the local residents on their doorstep,” district and sessions judge Ashfaq Taj told a ceremony held in connection with the launch of the judicial system in Kundar Hassanzai area.

The ceremony was also attended among others by adviser to the chief minister Zargul Khan, Kandar Hassanzai tehsil nazim Shahzad Shah, deputy commissioner Pervez Khan and district police officer Sardar Khan.

Torghar was a tribal belt of Mansehra district until 2012 when it was given the status of a settled district through a presidential order.
