BAIL AMENDMENT FAILS IN SENATE

Government failed to convince sufficient independent senators of the benefit of the Bail Amendment Bill which seeks to extend for a period of one year, certain provisions that bar access to bail which expire on August 5th.


It already knew that it did not have the support of the Opposition, but was banking on the Independent benches to pull the bill through.
