Back to school in Syria

This is what remains of a school in Idlib province.

It's a place that has been at the center of the fight in Syria.

Amid the loss and destruction, many young Syrians also are being deprived of basic education.

But video obtained by Reuters shows there is relief in the form of a makeshift school in the mountains.

Students are now back in the classroom where subjects include math, science, Arabic and religion.

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) A TEACHER AT MAKESHIFT SCHOOL IN ZAWYA MOUNTAIN, USAMA, SAYING:

"We established this humble school after the brutal regime bombed our villages and homes, even our schools were not safe. So we established this school in a provincial area in order to protect our young children from the threat of illiteracy and ignorance, which this regime has been trying to impose for 100 years."

Never mind the shortage of supplies. Children crowd the classes eager to take part in lessons.
