Babusar Pass Chilas And Kaghan Valley

Babusar Pass or Top is located between Naran and Chilas. Elevation of Babusar Top is 4170 meters (13690 feet). Babusar Pass connects Gilgit with Kaghan via Chilas during summers From Babusar top looking north in the distance is Rakaposhi, while on the Kaghan side the polo ground where an annual event is held is visible. The near peaks surrounding the Pass include Malika Parbat and Toshe Ri I (Sarwali Peak) In 1890 the British built this new, shorter track across Babusar, directly connecting Gilgit and British India. Before this, the only route to Gilgit had been the difficult track from Srinagar over the Burzil Pass and followed the Astore river gorge. The Babusar road was the main route from Rawalpindi to Gilgit from 1947 until 1978, when the KKH was opened.
From here, it takes almost an hour to the Karakorum Highway (KKH), near Chilas, and then on to Raikot from where one could take the track to Fairy Meadows and camp for superb views of Nanga Parbat. Further along the KKH one could turn right on to the Astore road to travel through Astore valley, Deosai Plain and Skardu, or continue on the KKH toward Gilgit. Naran-Chilas Road Via Babusar Top is now in final stage. This Highway has been built with the keen interest of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. In 1997 he also built Balakot-Naran Road. People of Kaghan Valley has appreciated this project of PML-N. This will lead to boost in tourism industry in the Hazara Region and Giligit Baltistan. It is expected that there will more and more hotels and restaurants in Kaghan Valley form Balakot to Naran and From Naran to Jalkhad, Burwai to Babusar Pass in future. In next 5-10 years this valley will flourish very speedily.
