B.E. Lusiv - After The Rain

In a cold sweat
I wake up to thunder clapping
So loud... so loud...
Wondering how my dreary eyes ever drifted to sleep
... a prelude of the day's offerings
... a repeat of yesterday's.

As I dwell in my solitary confinement
The storm worsens
And the rain begins to fall
Steady drops beat heavily into my weary soul
... rhythmically composing my own requiem

And I haven't even gotten out of bed yet.

Rising up,
Lightning flashes a brilliant display of dead light
The sky grows bleak... black
A swirl of thick ominous clouds loom close overhead
... a sigh of acceptance

A fresh cup,
I add cream
The back of the milk carton confirms my suspicion:
MISSING: The Sun

I leave my recluse... scared
The rain permeates my umbrella
I toss it aside
Drenched spirits moments earlier only dampened

I return ragged and worn...
Bruised and torn
Ears bleeding as the deafening thunder echoes through the night sky
I inhale the earth in a desperate and meager attempt at solace
... a temporary cocoon of escape

The sky opens
If only to tease
I sit reluctantly
Praying for it's demise
... or my own

Suddenly... a vision
In Ebony
A defying sight against the dark night
Smooth
Gorgeous
Chocolate
I'm delirious

The storm begins to dissipate
The heavy clouds lift an even heavier burden
I gain strength as the rain weakens
I struggle to gain understanding

Gears shifted
Tables turned
I am weak again
... this time with love

I gaze upon the night sky
No more clouds
No more rain
No more lightning
No more pain

Tonight I dream
A crystalline sky has emerged
Stars fighting against the glow of a full moon
I look forward to tomorrow
... for I have found my sun
