Description

When I woke, it hung above me like a sail
All I've done is list my doubts and fears there
In stark black and white, so detailed
And all of this explosive bile resides
It's all right there in my briefcase
Inches from where she is having breakfast
So the winds of realisation blow
It is time I made my way
Down to the sea...

As day dawns and sun shatters up above
The exploding horizon dilates my morning mind
I make my sure, slow way on and on
Down two-hundred steps of stone and on
To where the sea and sand shake hands
I stare, unblinking for a moment, into the brine
Unsure, then suddenly and certainly sure again
It is time I gave that part of me
Back to the sea...

I always said this would have an ending
Somehow, some day it must be erased
A diary of deciept, tempered with such love
Unsuitable for any eyes but mine
As bold as you like, it's barely hidden
Those ancient thoughts must be washed away
The ink must be pulled from the page
It's time I let them sink
Down into the sea...

Oh, how my fear's risen up hard in me
Plucked my heart as you began to open my case
And how I've imploded in relief
When you've set it back down again, unseen
I've risked this for far too long now
I realise that some poetry must stay hidden
Those words should not see air
It is long over-due, that date of mine
With the ever-clensing sea...

Now sea, promise me
Those words of teenage questioning
Will stay below, will vanish now
In your blue bay
Oh, promise me, promise me
They will remain unseen...
