Austria seizes Hitler's house

Austria’s Constitutional Court has upheld the law that permits the compulsory purchase of the house
in which Adolf Hitler was born.

Authorities want to prevent the property in Braunau am Inn, becoming a neo-Nazi shrine and place of pillgramidge.

The owner Gerlinde Pommer appealed against the parliament’s vote for a compulsory purchase order she argued that the building could be transformed without being seized by the state.

Austrian authorities intend to convert the building and hand it over to a disabilities charity.

The state currently pays €5,000 a month in rent to Gerlinde Pommer and under the expropriation law she will receive compensation.

The mass killer was born on the top floor of the building near the Austro-German border in 1889.
