Australia protest highlights Syrian plight

Australia's Syrian community waves flags in Sydney against the brutal crackdown on Syria's uprising.

About 100 people protest President Bashar al-Assad's regime in a local park amid intensified violence in Syria over the weekend.

(SOUNDBITE) (English)VICE PRESIDENT OF THE AUSTRALIAN AND SYRIAN ASSOCIATION, TAMER KAHIL SAYING:

"We are trying to create an awareness in the Australian population that the Syrians are angry and we want them to be aware of the crimes, the war crimes, that the Syrian regime is doing in Syria. Especially yesterday in Homs where the regime killed more than 300 people in Homs alone and in injured about 1,000 people."

A day earlier men broke into the Syrian embassy in Canberra, smashing windows and plants.

Police said they did not cause extensive damage and the three embassy employees present were unharmed.
