Description

Chaos erupts in Canberra on Australia's national day.
Around 200 Aborigine and human rights protesters surrounded a restaurant where Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard and opposition leader Tony Abbot were attending a medal presentation.
The violence prompted angry responses from Gillard at a press conference on Saturday.

"So no one is angrier than me about what happened at the Lobby Restaurant on Australia Day. The people who initiated those violent acts, the people who were involved in those violent acts are responsible for the violence that was there. Their conduct has made me very angry. It's understandably made people around the nation very angry indeed."
The protesters incorrectly believed that Abbott wanted a nearby sit-in highlighting aboriginal rights to be shut down.
Demonstrators planned to make some comments outside the restaurant when things got out of control, forcing Gillard and Abbot to be evacuated haphazardly by security.
Abbot has since implied that Gillard may have provoked the violence, since her media advisor had tipped off protest representatives before they arrived at the restaurant.

"For it to be insinuated that I would play some role in disrupting an event to recognise Australians who had performed miracles during a natural disaster is deeply offensive."
The opposition is calling for an investigation into the incident.
