SSD Administration uses a 5 step proess to determine if someone is disabled: (1) Is the person currently working and if so, what are the current earnings? Earnings of $1,000 or more disqualifies you for benefits. (2) Severity of impairment - is there a disability that in a significant way impacts your ability to work ? (3) Comparison to listings of conditions that SSD has determined typically meet the conditions of being disabling. (4) Post relevant work - within the last 15 years was there substantially gainful activity? (5) Other work - are there any obs that you can do to earn a full-time wage?
