At least five dead in floods

Days of torrential rain brought floods and landslides to parts of Taiwan on Tuesday (June 12) where five people have died, according to Taiwan's Central Emergency Operation Centre.

A car park in the area collapsed throwing cars down a muddied bank, while a pregnant woman and her child were found stranded in deep water under a bridge.

Across Taiwan, 27 provincial and county highways were disrupted, 12 of which have been cleared.

In New Taipei City, local residents were seen trying to sweep flood water away from their homes overnight.

Agricultural damage has been estimated at 28,201,000 Taiwan dollars (941,570 U.S. dollars).
