Assaulted foreign reporter submits memo

French photojournalist Halim Berbar, one of the media personnel assaulted at the Permatang Pauh by-election on nomination day on Aug 16, said that he was not interested in blaming anyone for the incident but instead condemned violence against all press members.

"As journalists we have every right to carry out our duties without fear of harassment and physical assaults," said Berbar.

In a memorandum submitted to parliamentarians today, Berbar appealed to government and opposition representatives to recognise and respect the role of the media in the country.
