Ashley Davis - Only a dream

I walk the darkened path
Straight and narrow
Knowing only that I have to keep going
I'm tired of pretending that things are perfect
That I'm happy
When really I'm not
I put my mask on day after day
Lying to the world
Lying to myself
I keep on moving thinking only my breathing
As the darkness swallows me whole
I start to feel safe and warm
But I know its only a lie
I look upon the ground
And see a puddle beneath my feet
Suddenly I couldn't breathe
As I felt everything fall apart
I fall to my knees
I saw my refection in the sparkling water
As though I was happy
I try to fight back the tears
But they still seem to come
I grab my stomach
Trying to hold myself together
As all the pain rushes to me
I search in my head
Trying to think of the way to breathe
I inhale and the darkness slowly fades
I start to see more clearly
Still breathing i stand to walk
Walk as the darkness falls behind me
And soon it will fade completely away
The pain that I felt
Seems so far behind with every step i take
But I dare not to look back
For I know when I do
It will happen all over again
