Description
• The word "communication" comes from the Latin word "communicare," which means "to share."
• Communication is the process of sharing information, ideas, or feelings between people using words, signs, gestures, or symbols.
• Good communication ensures that the message is clearly understood by the other person.
Elements of Communication
Communication happens when a message is sent from one person to another in a way that both can understand. Here are the main parts of communication:
• Sender – The person or group who starts the communication. The way they express the message depends on their knowledge and skills.
• Message – The idea, information, or feeling that the sender wants to share.
• Encoding – Converting the message into words, signs, gestures, or images so that the receiver can understand it.
• Communication Channel – The method used to send the message, like talking, texting, emails, phone calls, or social media
• Receiver – The person or group who gets the message and tries to understand it.
• Decoding – The process where the receiver interprets (understands) the message by reading, listening, or observing.
• Feedback – The receiver’s response, which helps the sender know whether the message was understood correctly.
Importance of Communication Skills
• Communication is a two-way process where information or ideas are exchanged between a sender and a receiver. It is important because:
• Sharing Information – Helps people exchange important details using words, gestures, or signs. Example: A teacher explains a topic to students.
• Motivation – Encourages people to do their best. Example: A teacher motivates students to study, or a manager inspires a team to work harder.
• Persuasion – Influences others to take action. Example: A parent convinces a child to study, or a coach motivates players before a match.
• Clarity – Ensures that messages are understood easily, whether spoken or non-verbal.
