Argentina: Summit Against Institutional Violence

As part of the agenda of the national campaign against institutional violence, the Argentine Congress held its Third Federal Summit for People’s Security on Friday. The event was attended by social, human rights and political movements, as well as relatives of victims of police violence. The goal of the Summit is to build a security model against police abuse and judicial prejudice against certain segments of the society. Spokespersons say the changes agreed upon will assure that the police version of an event is not the first to be consulted, but instead that families and community people are also consulted. They say it is urgent to make sure that people are not jailed, persecuted or punished for being poor. Laureano Ponce reports from Buenos Aires for teleSUR.
