Argentina's 'Soul Train' does its rounds
1 Views • Aug 21, 2012
Description
The 'Alma train', which means 'soul train' in English, runs entirely on donations and is still going strong after 30 years.
The northern provinces of Argentina are among the poorest in the country. Infant mortality continues to be a serious problem there, with people saying that the train is important to them because there are no doctors or hospitals nearby.
The train has no locomotive of its own, so doctors have to make arrangements to hitch a ride with the rail company in order to get on board.
Al Jazeera's Teresa Bo reports from the province of Salta, Argentina.
