Anthony Foster - An Ode To Spring

What is this gentle stirring of the landscape?
The vivid green, of pastures newly awake,
After the long cold winters deep sleep freeze,
The gentle Daffodil in the sunlight, cast reflections on the lake,

With primroses amongst the trees whose buds have turned to leaves,
Myriads of Blue Bells have sprung up seeking chinks of light,
What pleasure it is this tapestry that nature constantly weaves,
For as I thread my way through the scented wood what a heady enchanted sight,

A fallen beech tree lying down flat amidst this sea of blue,
The mighty tree appears to be sleeping on a carpet of the oceans hue?
And what of the delicate Orchids in the shade of this coppiced place,
The early purple so red, so tall, but so short is the time it occupies this space.

Excitement and anticipation of nature awakening and alive,
A swirl and the pond doth yield up its secrets from below,
Feeding on the newly hatched insects, a fish to the surface doth arrive,
The sleek dark body is interspaced in the thick weedy flow,

This life’s rotational mysterious story of the seasons rebirth,
Uplifting and familiar the gaze on things that are brandnew,
Oh the smell of the fresh awakening of the earth,
Brings joy to my soul and makes me glad to be alive and in love with you.
