Anthony Degilio - A Phoenix's Fire

Thy monstrous beast flew faster with wings afire,
Settling on smouldering perches forever higher,
Soon it hovers high enough to overlook the earth,
Under which lies humanity in its wasteful girth,
It spreads its ruby wings and drops below,
Extinguishing all of humanity in one fiery flow,
But, alas, after all are gone the phoenix will die,
And from the ashes of the beast will humanity rise.
