Description

Anime fans descend upon Los Angeles for the 2014 Anime Expo.

The annual event is a celebration of all things anime, the term to describe Japanese style animation.

Meg Amo, brand manager of the Society for the Promotion of Japanese animation, is herself a big anime fan.

SOUNDBITE: Meg Amo, saying (English):

"it's not just an industry event where people are trying to sell things to the attendees, it's really a celebration of both the attendees and the industry coming together."

The event gives die-hard fans of the genre the chance to let loose, surround themselves with fellow animephiles, and even dress up as their favorite anime characters.

It's a practice known within these circles as "cosplay," short for costume play.

The four day event, billed as the largest anime convention in North America, is expected to attract a total of approximately 200,000 fans.
