Description

Mother Nature showed no mercy for this animal rescue center and nature park in the Philippines.

It's located in one of the hardest hit areas, Tacloban City.

Of the 11 animals being cared for, only three monkeys and a handful of birds survived.

Head Ranger Robert Villarino:

"I feel so sad now some of them are dead and gone, because we were the ones who fed and cared for them. But we couldn't help them survive the storm. We just couldn't control the wind, it was just too strong."

The city opened up a rescue center within the park six years ago. It was designed to help reintroduce injured and battered animals back into the wild.

It was once a tourist spot crawling with wild cats and birds that inhabited plush hills.

Now, branches barely cling to the trees, and there is hardly a sign of life.
