I know I’m a replacement,
Because every time you see me,
You wish I was her,
I know I’m a substitute,
Because when u kiss me,
You whisper her name,
I know I’m a stand in,
Because you said when you touch me,
I feel just like her,
I know I’m the alternate,
Because when you’re lost in thought,
I know you’re thinking of her,
I know I’m a proxy,
Because every time you write to me,
You start the letter with her name,
I know I’m a surrogate,
Because when you dream
You murmur her name.
I know all this,
Yet here I am.
I think back on my child hood dreams,
And am disappointed at what I’ve become,
This wasn’t what I had wanted,
So I’m letting you go,
And leaving you behind,
Burying you in my past,
So I can move on,
To my Future.
