Andy Barrette - Never Have I Ever

I never really liked the mirror,
what it showed to me,
for, in the mirror, all I saw
is all I'm meant to be.
It never seems to raise my spirits
with a cheerful tone,
for every time I am reminded
that I am alone.

The window never showed me something
that I can attain
and all the people shown to me
where shown to me in vain.
I never found a hand to touch
that also was in reach.
I never got to practice the love
that I loved to preach.

I never really found the ground
that I would need to pray,
and if I did
I surely wouldn't know just what to say.
Instead, I never gave a knee
so much as gave a fist
and a dropp of blood for every tear
I gave for love I'd missed.

I never looked up to the sky
to see what it could bring
and never did I listen
for the joy that life can sing.
I always hoped to know the lover
that I'd hoped to find
and I never found the love
I knew would let my search unwind.
