Description

The jagged thorns of briar and gorse
Are sleeping slowly on their course
Relentlessly without remorse
Upon this hilly way.

Amidst the thicket creatures pry
All hidden from the gazing eye
And shielded from the sunny sky
In shadows they do stay.

And where the birds do sing for me
In jagged thorns of harmony
Upon the downs so wild and free
Which reach towards the bay.

The flowers gold amidst the thorn
Upon the slopes so dry and fawn
Beside the path so rough and worn
Where dust and stones now lay.

As now I walk nowhere to go
I'm waiting for the winds to blow
To carry forth the evening glow
And see its grand display.

Until that time of fading light
I'll climb upon this thorny height
And breathe the air and see the sight
So fine this summer's day.
