I’ve lost a friend
Not to war or death or poverty
But to this putrid place of a world
Once, we were both simple and safe
Oblivious to the filth and manipulation
But how come when I look in your eyes you aren’t there?
You say you’re angry at the world
Society, with those who hold firm a gavel
In an anticipating grip
But how can you complain when
That’s where you’ll always be
Submerged in your life of decadence Undaunted by the course of your fate
Decency means nothing, faith means nothing
Consistency, character, friendship, generosity, self sacrifice
They all mean nothing to you
Your heart has hardened; your love has been discounted
And you fling yourself at what will ease your mind of this guilt for just a while
I don’t know you anymore
You can’t even begin to understand
