Description

The empty seats are always
next to me, a vacancy on either side
which no one cares to fill.
Not knowing what to do or where to go
I fold my hands again and hope
one day the seat on either side
will be taken by the person
holding my hand as I now hold my own.
Why the seats are vacant I do not know.
Perhaps my purse looks more handsome
in their place
or else
I look better sitting on my own,
a pensive frown washed across my face.
The first time a man
tells me three words,
my heart will ignite; my eyes
will fill my face with tears enough
to flood my world and slowly
I will sink into a comfortable oblivion.
