An Almost Airplane Collision

A forward air traffic controller at Israel's Ben Gurion International Airport prevented what could have been a major air disaster on Thursday November 18th. A collision was avoided when he spotted an Air Berlin plane deviating from its runway while taking off and approaching an El Al plane about to land. The two planes were only 800 feet apart, below the minimum of 1,000 feet allowed between aircraft. The vigilant flight controller identified the alarming danger and directed the two planes to separate immediately. The Israel Aviation Authority stated that the passengers were not at risk at any point and that the details of the incident were passed on to the Ministry of Transportation for investigation.
