Amy Jewell - Assimilation

I sit down by the
window that frames
the autumn landscape.
The most prominent presense
in the room is
the absence to my left.
A void that fills
my heart
and my mind.
Filled with emptiness -
a funny thought,
but no one
with whom to laugh.
Today, with the rest of them,
I bleed.
